The free at-home COVID testing program will resume, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a news release on September 20, 2023.

Beginning the following week, you can request free COVID testing online at COVIDTests.gov. Four free quick COVID tests can be ordered by each household and delivered right to their door.

According to a news release from HHS, "These tests will identify the COVID-19 variants that are currently in circulation, are meant for use through the end of 2023, and will include clear instructions on how to verify extended expiration dates."

Beginning on September 25, 2023, you can request free COVID testing from the government. According to the United States Postal Service, shipping will start during the week of October 2, 2023.

Other high-risk areas, such as long-term care facilities, those without health insurance, and low-income senior housing, are also tested by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.

The new information was released while COVID-19 hospitalizations and fatalities continued to rise, mostly as a result of the introduction of new variations.
